The Newell Highway is the most direct route from Melbourne to Goondiwinid on the New South Wales - Queensland border. The highway officially starts in Tocumwal on the Victorian- New South Wales Border and leads us through some of the most interesting towns, like Forbes, Parkes, Narromine, Dubbo, Gilgandra, Coonabarabran, Narabri, Moree and finally Goondiwindi.

You can then continue on the Gore Highway to Toowoomba and Brisbane or head up further North to Bundaberg and on.

You will find plenty of good over-nigt spots along the highway. I found them all well sign posted and safe. Just park out of the way to keep clear of large trucks.

I also found that you are allowed to have showers at some of the big service stations, if you fill up there. But please ask before you use the showers, don't just barge in.
